How to Block Jio from Showing Ads on your Android Phone

Ever since I added the Reliance Jio 4G SIM on my Android phone, I’ve been bombarded with full screen overlay ads. The ads appear intermittently but they’ll almost always show up after you disconnect a phone call or when you are charging the device.
reliance-jio

I use a limited number of Android apps from known developers and was fairly certain that adware was related to the Jio phone service. After fiddling with every possible setting inside Android to disable the ads, I turned to Twitter for help.

  1. Uninstall MyJio, Jio 4G Voice and all other Jio apps.
  2. Revoke all permissions of Jio apps. Long press the app icon, press the info button, go to App Permission and uncheck everything. Also turn off the “draw over the apps” permission for Jio apps.
  3. For Android Oreo or later, go to Settings > Apps > MyJio and turn off the “App can appear on top” setting. You probably need to do this for every Jio app on the device.
  4. Root the phone and install AdAway, an ad block that uses the hosts file to block specific hostnames and IP addresses.
  5. Use Greenify to hibernate all the Jio apps and prevent the app from running in the background.
  6. Disable ‘Telephone’ access for all Jio apps. Even Jio Mags has default access to ‘Telephone’!
  7. Toggle background data to disable data access for all Jio related apps.
Unfortunately, none of these suggestions worked.
Meanwhile, the Jio team contacted me after seeing the tweet and asked for the IMEI number of the phone. A week later, I got a call from the Jio support team saying that the problem should be resolved.
Yes, I was no longer getting any pop-up ads on my phone despite having all the Jio apps as before. What changed? It turned out, the Jio support representative told me, that these ads can only be disabled by Jio for the requested phone number on the server side.

In short, if you are also feeling annoyed with Jio related ads on your phone, send a tweet to @JioCare and they should be able to help.

How to Verify Your Phone Number Using UIDAI Website?

Image result for verify aadhar

Highlights

  • UIDAI lets users verify both email address and phone number

  • The tool is available on the UIDAI website

  • Aadhaar card has to be linked with PAN card for filing income tax returns

Are you sure that the contact information registered with Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for your Aadhaar Card is correct? If not, we would advise you to head to the UIDAI website and check it out for yourself. Aadhaar card is increasingly becoming the most important proof of identification and considering that the government has made it mandatory to link your Aadhaar cards with PAN card for filing income tax returns, its importance has grown further. UIDAI has now provided an online tool for you to verify that the contact information provided in Aadhaar card is correct.
In order to verify whether your contact number is correct on the Aadhaar card, you need to head to the home page of the UIDAI website and choose the option Verify Email/Mobile Number under Aadhaar Services tab. In the new tab, you need to enter details like your Aadhaar number, email address, mobile number that you need to verify, and a security code. Notably, the UIDAI security code is case sensitive and users should keep in mind that letters in upper and lower case will be treated as different entities by the system.

How to verify email address on UIDAI website

In order to verify the email address, users need to enter the Aadhaar number, email address, and a security code on the UIDAI platform. Then they will receive the OTP on their email address, which is then required to be entered on the right side of the page in the space provided. In case of entries that are valid and match, the system responds by saying “Congratulations! The Email ID matches with our records!”

How to verify contact number on UIDAI website

Users need to enter their mobile number instead of email address in order to receive the OTP on the mobile number and verify it from the website. Rest of the procedure is same as the verification of the email address. In case of entries that are valid and match, the system responds by saying “Congratulations! The Mobile Number matches with our records!”

Importance

The information provided to UIDAI for the Aadhaar card needs to be authentic and any discrepancies might cause problems for you going ahead. This is precisely why you need to make sure that these details associated with your identity are correctly noted down in the records available with the UIDAI.

How to Embed Facebook Message Buttons in your Website?

       Email has always been the preferred mode for reaching out to people on the Internet. Websites would put their email addresses on web pages and made them clickable hyperlinks using the mailto protocol. Things have changed and while email is still considered important, the new generation is known to prefer instant texting apps like Facebook Messenger over email. For them, writing an email is as boring as creating a résumé.
This step-by-step guide explains the various techniques that you can use to easily embed the Facebook Messenger button in your website. When someone clicks the Message Me button, it will directly launch the Facebook Messenger app on their mobile phone or the messenger.com website if they are on the desktop. You can choose to receive messages in your Facebook profile or your Facebook page, if you have one.

A: Simple Facebook Messenger Link

The default Facebook Messenger button is rendered using JavaScript but you can also write them in pure HTML without requiring JavaScript. The advantage is that these buttons (see demo) would show up even if the user has enabled ad blockers and second, you can embed message links inside email newsletters.
Facebook Messenger
All you have to do is replace “XYZ” in the snippet below with your Facebook vanity username. If you don’t have a username yet, you can use your numerical Facebook profile ID instead. The link may be customized with CSS to resemble a button as seen in this live demo.

  1. <a href="https://m.me/XYZ">
  2. Message us on Facebook
  3. </a>
Tip: If you are not seeing messages sent to your Facebook profile, it is because Facebook automatically hides messages from people that are not in your contacts / friends list. Go to facebook.com/messages, click the “More” dropdown and choose “Filtered” to see all messages that are not in your main inbox.

B: Facebook Messenger Button

This is the default Facebook Messenger button (see live demo) rendered with JavaScript. Unlike the previous option that allows messaging to personal profile as well, this button is only available to Facebook Page owners for them to receive messages from other Facebook users.
To get started, copy-paste the following snippet in your blog template but remember to replace “XYZ” with the numeric ID of you Facebook Page. You can set the color as white for a blue text on white background button.
  1. <script>
  2. window.fbAsyncInit = function() {
  3. FB.init({
  4. appId : '95100348886',
  5. xfbml : true,
  6. version : 'v2.6'
  7. });
  8. };
  9.
  10. (function(d, s, id){
  11. var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
  12. if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;}
  13. js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
  14. js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js";
  15. fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
  16. }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
  17. </script>
  18.
  19. <div class="fb-messengermessageus"
  20. messenger_app_id="95100348886"
  21. page_id="XYZ"
  22. color="blue"
  23. size="large">
  24. </div>
Tip: If you are unable to use the Facebook Messenger button, it is likely that your Facebook Page is configured to not receive messages. Go to your Facebook Page settings, choose General, Messages and turn on the option that says “Allow people to contact my Page privately by showing the Message button”.

C: Facebook Messenger Box

You have seen the Facebook Like box embedded in websites but did you know that the same box can also include an inline form allowing any Facebook user to contact you without even leaving your webpage. Here’s a live demo.
In this case you need to replace “XYZ” in the snippet below with the vanity username or ID of your Facebook Page. Anyone who is logged into Facebook can message you from your website itself, similar to regular contact us forms.

  1. <script>
  2. window.fbAsyncInit = function() {
  3. FB.init({
  4. appId : '95100348886',
  5. xfbml : true,
  6. version : 'v2.6'
  7. });
  8. };
  9.
  10. (function(d, s, id){
  11. var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
  12. if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;}
  13. js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
  14. js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js";
  15. fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
  16. }(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));
  17. </script>
  18.
  19. <div class="fb-page"
  20. data-href="https://www.facebook.com/XZY/"
  21. data-tabs="messages"
  22. data-width="400"
  23. data-height="300"
  24. data-small-header="true">
  25. <div class="fb-xfbml-parse-ignore">
  26. <blockquote></blockquote>
  27. </div>
  28. </div>
You should also check the Facebook Page Plugin to learn about all the other configuration options that can be easily set using the data attributes.

How to Get SMS Alerts for Gmail via Twitter?

                How do you get SMS notifications on your mobile phone for important emails in your Gmail? Google doesn’t support text notifications for their email service but Twitter does. If we can figure out a way to connect our Twitter and Gmail accounts, the Gmail notifications can arrive as text on our mobile via Twitter. Let me explain:
              Twitter allows you to follow any @user via a simple SMS. They provide short codes for all countries (see list) and if you text FOLLOW to this shortcode following by the  username, any tweets from that user will arrive in your phone as text notifications. For instance, if you are in the US, you can tweet FOLLOW labnol to 40404 to get my tweets as text messages. Similarly, users in India can text FOLLOW labnol to 9248948837 to get the tweets via SMS.

             The short code service of Twitter can act as a Gmail SMS notifier. You create a new Twitter account, set the privacy to private and this account will send a tweet when you get a new email in Gmail. Follow this account via SMS from you main Twitter account and the SMS notifications will start pouring in.
gmail messages in twitter timeline

Use Twitter as a Gmail Notifier with Google Scripts

Here’s a step by step guide on how you can use Twitter to get SMS notification for important email in your Gmail account. It will take a minute to setup and, internally, there’s a Google Apps Script that’s doing all the magic. It monitors your Gmail mailbox in the background and as soon as a new message arrives in your account, the script sends out a tweet.
  1. Log out of your existing Twitter account and then go to twitter.com/signup to create a new Twitter account for your Gmail account.
  2. Confirm your email address, then open the Twitter settings page and check the option “Protect My Tweets.” This will make your Gmail notifications private and neither search engines nor other Twitter users will be able to see tweets generated through Gmail.
  3. Click here to copy the Google Sheet and choose Authorize under the Gmail to Twitter menu (near Help). Remember to authorize with your new Twitter account.
  4. Once authorized, choose Start from the Gmail to Twitter menu and enter your Gmail search query. For instance you can say is:important is:unread in:inbox newer_than:1d to only receive notification for new, unread and important emails in your Gmail. Click OK.
That’s it. The Gmail notifier is running and it will tweet when a matching email is found. It runs every 10-15 minutes and will only work on incoming email, not the old message. The messages will also be logged in the Google Sheet so you know what’s happening behind the scene.

Get SMS Alerts for Emails at Gmail

Open a new browser session in Incognito mode, log in to your old Twitter account and send a follow request to your new Gmail account on Twitter. Approve the new follower request and you should now see tweets for new Gmail messages, as they arrive, in your main Twitter timeline.

Should you wish to receive SMS alerts on your mobile phone for new Gmail messages, just open the Twitter profile page of your Gmail bot and turn on Mobile Notifications. This will obviously work only if you have connected (and verified) your mobile phone with your main Twitter account.
